MEMBERSHIP FAQs
What towns are the member from?
The Metrowest Boston Chapter includes (but is not limited to) the following towns: Framingham, Natick, Ashland, Hopkinton, Southboro, Sudbury, Wayland, and Wellesley.
If you live outside our area, find a chapter near you.
Who is eligible to join Mothers & More?
Anyone who supports the mission of Mothers & More is eligible for membership, including spouses/partners, grandparents, and caregivers.
What are some of the benefits of membership?
Mothers & More members are entitled to participate in all chapter-sponsored events, including (but not limited to):
- twice-monthly discussion meetings
- moms' nights out
- children’s/family activities
- playgroups
- book group, cooking group, weight loss group, seasoned moms group
- community service projects
- special annual events (e.g., Mothers & More yard sale, member appreciation dinner)
The MetroWest Boston chapter also maintains a very active email discussion group—The Loop—that is a fantastic resource for information of any kind, from childcare recommendations to plumber referrals to where to go on vacation. There are also dozens of national email loops that members can join on specific topics of interest.
As we are a volunteer-run organization, each member also has the opportunity to be involved in planning events and shaping the direction of our chapter. Volunteering is a great way to meet other mothers, get involved in our community, and to develop new skills!
What makes Mothers & More different from other “moms’ groups”?
- We focus on Mom as a whole person. While we have many activities for children and families, we also provide an opportunity for mothers to focus on themselves and their needs/interests outside their caregiving roles.
- We recognize that mothers need lasting, meaningful connections with each other that will last beyond infancy and the toddler years. Many of the “seasoned moms” of our chapter have been involved for over 10 years!
- We provide an extended community of women who are talking about and supporting each other through the changes and challenges that affect mothers' lives.
- We believe in the value of all the work mothers do. As a result, whether you're juggling the demands of paid work and family care, being a full-time caregiver at home, or making a transition between the two, you will find support in our chapter.
Do I have to attend all the meetings to remain a member? Members aren't required to attend all events or even a certain number of events per month or year. You are free to participate in whatever way fits your needs. We have some members who are active on the email Loop but rarely make it to events. Others can only attend evening meetings, or activities with children during the day. We are happy to have you as a member no matter how you choose to participate.
Are children allowed at chapter events?
Children are welcome at playgroups and kids’/family activities. However, because we encourage our members to view evening discussion meetings as opportunities to focus on themselves as individuals, apart from the demands of family, children may not attend these meetings. For some mothers, this is a rare opportunity to spend time socializing away from home without children. We do welcome non-mobile infants at these discussion meetings to meet the special needs of mothers with infants. Other chapter events (moms’ night out, book group, etc.) are also specifically for moms only.
I work full-time outside the home. Will there be events that I can attend?
Yes! Our discussion meetings, moms’ nights out, and book group meetings all take place in the evenings (typically beginning at 7:30 PM).
Can another family member (spouse, grandparent) or nanny take my child(ren) to playgroups/kids’ activities in my place?
Playgroups/kids’ activities are open to Mothers & More members and any child(ren) in their care. Therefore, a spouse/grandparent/nanny would have to have his/her own membership to bring your children to events if you are not present.
How much does an annual membership cost?
An annual membership is $45, and dues are divided between the local chapter and the central organization.
Can I try out the chapter before I decide to join?
Yes! Prospective members are welcome to attend up to two events before deciding whether to join. To find out about upcoming events that are open to visitors, sign up with our meetup group.
I'd love to become a member, but I'm facing a tight family budget. Is there anything I can do?
We understand that families face tough money choices, making even a few dollars per month a stretch. During these times, we believe that moms need the support of other moms even more! Please contact our membership coordinator for information about scholarships for members--your request will be handled with respect for your privacy.
Can I receive a refund if I decide that membership is not for me? What if I move out of the MetroWest area?
Memberships are non-refundable, which is why we encourage prospective members to try us out before joining. If you leave the area, you are welcome to either stay affiliated with our chapter or to transfer your membership to a chapter near your new home.
